Barbara J. Johnson

Barbara J. Johnson, age 82, resident of Lakota, ND passed away Saturday, December 8, 2018 at the Good Samaritan Society in Lakota, ND.

Barbara was born on July 12, 1936 in McVille hospital to Alfred Eugene and Bernadette (Duchesneau) Carlson. She grew up on the Carlson family farm south of Lakota and attended Dodd’s Township School (Nelson County) through the 8th grade and then transferred to the Lakota High School from which she graduated in 1955. On July 17, 1956 she married Elvin B. Johnson at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Lakota and together they farmed and raised a family north of Lakota in Clara Township.  Elvin and Barb lived on the family farm until April 2016 at which time they moved into the Prairie Rose facility (Lakota).

Barb was very active within her church serving as the President of the Altar Society, choir member and organist.  She was a member of Cleveland Homemakers, the Lakota American Legion Auxiliary, and was selected as Nelson County Farm Woman of the Year.  Barb drove school bus for the Lakota school district for almost 50 years and always loved hearing from her “bus kids” as they grew up and the years went by.

Barb is survived by her husband Elvin (Lakota ND); her children Laurie (Steve) Eidsness (Brocket ND), Philip (Nita) Johnson (Auburn WA), Boyd Johnson (Lakota ND), Denise (Jay) Sundeen (Lakota ND). Grand children include Elizabeth (Kyle) Boguth (great grandchild Dusan); Cody Johnson, Carter Hendrickson, Chris Hendrickson, Cole Hendrickson. Step grandchildren include Alyssa (Paul) Konickson (great grandchildren Caleb, Levi); Shane (Lori) Eidsness (great grandchildren Cody, Hannah); Troy Eidsness (great grandchildren Morgan, Emily).

Surviving siblings include sister Trudy Weigel (Minot ND) and brother Bob Carlson (Detroit Lakes MN). Surviving in-laws include Dorothy Carlson (West Fargo ND), Blanche Ericksrud (Devils Lake ND), Lucille Tufte (Lakota ND), Clifford (Lilah) Johnson (Mandan ND), Larry (Pat) Johnson (Lakota ND), and Irene Johnson (Silver Bay MN).

Preceding Barb in death include her parents Eugene and Benny Carlson, sister Carol Schuh, brothers Richard (Dick) and John Carlson, brother-in-law Willis Johnson as well as her special aunt Grace Carlson.

The Funeral Mass for Barbara will be held at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in Lakota, ND on Friday, December 14, 2018 at 11:00 a.m.  Visitation will be held at the Aaker Funeral Home on Thursday, December 13, 2018 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. with a 7 p.m. Rosary service.  Visitation will continue on Friday at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of Mass.  Interment will be in the Lakota Cemetery.
