Dale C. Newman, age 90, went to his eternal heavenly home August 26, 2019 after battling congestive heart failure. He passed away peacefully at home in Bella Vista, Arkansas with family by his side.
Dale was born October 20, 1928 at Lake Andes, South Dakota, the son of Roy and Ella (Brusseau) Newman. He was one of six children.
Dale was raised and received his education in the Lake Andes area, attending local country schools and then graduating from Lake Andes High School in 1947.
He entered the Marine Corps in February 1952 during the Korean Conflict, serving two years active duty and six years in the reserves. He farmed the family farm for over 40 years. After retiring from farming, he worked for Midland Atlas Company and continued to work with surrounding farmers. He also worked as a realtor. Dale was a member of the American Legion and the Elks Lodge.
He married Darlene Reinschmidt, May 29th, 1958 in Lake Andes. They had two children: a daughter, Daylene and a son, Brett.
On August 29, 1997 he was united in marriage to Bernice Engen of Tolna, ND. The couple lived six months in Tolna and six months in Bella Vista, Arkansas. They enjoyed traveling, dancing, playing Mexican Train, and walking the Bella Vista golf course.
Dale was a devoted and loving father and husband. He loved gardening, golf, hunting, traveling, eating Bernice’s sweets and making things with his hands. He was a member of American Lutheran Church. Tolna, ND.
He is preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Dorothy (Denny) Sullivan and Mildred (Lawrence) Oleson and three brothers, Larry, Wayne and Kermit (Helen).
Dale is survived by his wife Bernice (Engen) Newman, son Brett (Jacque) Newman of Killeen, Texas and Daylene (Robert) Tobin of Missoula, Montana; his sister-in-law Ann Newman of Elgin, IL and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, September 3, 2019 at 11 a.m. at American Lutheran Church in Tolna, ND. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. at the church. Interment will be Wednesday, September 4, 2019 at 3 p.m. at Black Hills National Cemetery in Sturgis, SD with military honors by the US Marine Corps.
