Dianne E. Hoffman, age 75, resident of Tolna, ND, died Tuesday, October 16 at Sanford Medical Center in Fargo, ND.
Dianne Elizabeth Schmit was born August 7, 1943 in Breckenridge, MN, the daughter of Clarence and Phyllis (Leinen) Schmit. She was raised on the family farm near Fairmount, ND where she graduated from high school in 1961. She attended Valley City State Teachers College and graduated with an elementary teaching degree. Dianne married Raymond Hoffman on June 6, 1964 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Fairmount, ND. She taught in Wyndmere and Fairmount and after many years of raising her children and having an in-home daycare, she returned to the classroom as a paraprofessional for the Tolna and Dakota Prairie School Districts, retiring in 2010.
She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and the Altar Society, serving as president for many years. She served the church in many roles including rosary leader, lector, and sacristan. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. A selfless woman, she served her Lord in serving others. She was a strong, grounded, faith-filled woman. Her favorite pastime was supporting her children and grandchildren by attending their many activities. She was a positive and supporting fan. She only traveled if it meant seeing family. She was a smart, creative but very humble woman who put much thought into our gifts and our gatherings. She was a gifted letter writer and her family and friends were blessed with many encouraging and wisdom-filled letters and notes that will be forever cherished. There are no earthly words to adequately describe what a rare and precious gem she was to this world. Her wealth is in the love and regard with which she was held by all who knew her.
Dianne will be deeply missed by her 6 children, Lisa (Kevon) Gillett of Tolna, Lori (Ross) Henningsgard of Buxton, John (Alison) Hoffman of Andover, MN, Jason Hoffman of Tolna, Lyndi (Aaron) Ehlers of McHenry, and Jess Hoffman of Omaha, NE; 19 grandchildren, Jenna (Reid), Dylan and Ethan Gillett, Jessica, Taylor, Kennedy, Kyle and Carson Henningsgard, Joren, Lauralyn and Nolan Hoffman, Dalton, Riley, Danica, Breck and Brienna Ehlers, Madison Pfaff, William and Gavin Hoffman; 2 great-grandchildren, Oaklyn & Benson Haagenson; 4 sisters, Mary Sikorski, Janice Green, Rita Schmit, and Delores (Richard) Lysne; 3 brothers, Roger (Shirley) Schmit, Dan (Jan) Schmit, and Dave (MayreLyn) Schmit; and many nieces and nephews.
