Frances M. Brueckner

Frances M. Brueckner, resident of Niagara, ND, passed away at the Good Samaritan Society in Larimore, ND on Thursday June 7, 2018 at the age of 96.

Frances M. Mijan was born August 17, 1921 to Samuel & Vinki (Mitrovich) Mijan in Chicago, IL.  She graduated from Englewood High School, Chicago, IL in June 1940.  She started working at a department store while taking evening bookkeeping courses.  After that she started working as a bookkeeper for the Chicago Stockyard.  On February 28, 1948, she was united in marriage to Alfred Brueckner in Chicago, IL.  They moved to Niagara, ND a year or so later from Chicago, IL.  Frances did many jobs besides raising her family.  She worked as a short order cook at the Petersburg Café, Niagara Corner Café, and then in town at the Niagara Café.  She also worked 2 falls as a potato digger.  She wanted to give back to her community at the age of 60 plus, so she took the courses to become an EMT.  Frances was a member of St. Andrew Lutheran Church in Niagara and the LWML.  She enjoyed knitting and joined a knitting club in Grand Forks.  She was also a member of the Petersburg Curling Club and a 4-H Leader.  Gardening and quilting were also her hobbies.

She is survived by her 3 children, Donna Thara, Niagara, ND, Richard Brueckner, Devils Lake, ND, and Russell Brueckner, Niagara, ND; 7 grandchildren, Michael (Michele) Thara, Ray Thara, Leslie (Jeff Morrel) Brueckner, Jason Brueckner, Christopher (Lacey) Brueckner, Nicki Brueckner, and Brandon (Shalana) Brueckner; 10 great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Bernice Brueckner; 2 cousins, George (Debbie) Peso, Chicago, IL and Mary Krstulovich, Brampton, ON Canada; and nieces & nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred Brueckner; her parents; brothers, Mike, Wonko, and Vincent; and (little sister) Antonia; and great grandchild, Jaysten Brueckner.

FUNERAL SERVICE: Wednesday, June 13, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. in St. Andrew Lutheran Church of Niagara.  Burial will follow the service at St. Andrew Lutheran Cemetery, rural Niagara, ND.

VISITATION: Tuesday, from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. with a 7 p.m. prayer service at St. Andrew Lutheran Church of Niagara, ND.  Visitation will resume for 1 hour prior to the funeral on Wednesday.

Officiating will be Rev. Dan Suelzle of Wittenberg Chapel in Grand Forks, ND.  Music selections will be provided by Mrs. Barb Snyder, organist.  Casketbearers will be Michael Thara, Raymond Thara, Jason Brueckner, Jeff Morrel, Christopher Brueckner and Brandon Brueckner.
