Harold Ruud, age 84, resident of Michigan, ND died Sunday, September 9, 2018 at the Nelson County Health System Hospital in McVille.
Harold was born June 18, 1934, the son of Henry and Emma (Swenseth) Ruud of Mapes, ND. He attended country school, Center #1 through 8th grade, and continued to stay on the farm and help with farming. In 1956-59 Harold served in the Army and was stationed in Germany. He married Clarine Helland June 27, 1964 and together they had 3 children: Gary, Daniel, and Helen. Harold and Clarine owned and operated a farm and raised cattle.
Harold was a quiet and humble man who enjoyed country and old-time music. He learned to play accordion by ear. He played a few years with The Country Boy’s band with Marvin Helland, Myron Jallo and Clarence Trenda. His son Daniel also played accordion by ear at an early age. They enjoyed playing together at various functions in the area.
Harold was preceded in death by his parents, brother Elden, sister Lois Rosenow, brothers-in-law John Lindvall and Arnold Haugen, nephew Bradley Haugen, grand-nephews Paul Fiebiger and Tim Lindvall.
Harold is survived by his wife Clarine, McVille, sons Gary Ruud, McVille and Daniel Ruud, Michigan, daughter Helen (Allen) Smaage, McVille, granddaughter Tiffany Smaage, Devils Lake, brother Lloyd (Marilyn) Ruud, West Fargo, sisters Joan Lindvall, Cooperstown, Gladys Haugen, McVille, and Arlene (Jerry) Robinson, Lakota, sister-in-law Peggy Ruud, McVille, brother-in-law Marvin (Nina) Helland, Anamoose, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Funeral services will be Friday, September 14, 2018 at 2 p.m. at New Luther Valley Church, McVille, ND with visitation beginning at 1 p.m. Interment will be in Center Cemetery, rural McVille, ND. Military honors will be provided by Ole Semling American Legion Post #135, McVille, ND and the North Dakota Military Funeral Honors Team.
