Helen Stalvik Obituary

Helen Joyce (Hjelden) Stalvik was born at home on June 26, 1931 to Elmer and Isabelle (Doyle) Hjelden in Maddock, ND, the 4th oldest child of 16 children. Helen grew up in Maddock and Minnewaukan, ND, leaving school at ninth grade to go to work. She worked at Grandma's eat shop in Devils lake, ND among other employers in the area. In 1958 she answered an ad asking for a nanny in Washington state. She moved there to take care of (who would be her future step-son) Harold for her future husband Orville Sr. Orville and Helen were married in 1959 and made their home in the Tacoma, WA area. In 1964 she gave birth to her son Orville, Jr. In 1972 they moved to Binford, ND, where they purchased and operated Stalvik grocery and laundromat for over 20 years. Helen loved bowling and horseshoe league, playing and making new friends for many years. She was active in the homemakers club and very proud of her home. She loved to visit with everyone especially over coffee.

Helen is survived by her son, Orville (Jennifer) Stalvik, West Fargo, ND; 6 grandchildren, Grant Stalvik, East Grand forks, MN, Alexander Stalvik, Grand Forks, ND, Aubrey Jo Stalvik, Fertile, MN, Bradley Stalvik, Fargo, ND, Benjamin Stalvik, West Fargo, ND, and Dalton Gaden-Stalvik, Dilworth, MN; 5 brothers and 2 sisters, Burton Hjelden, Greenbrier, AR, Lloyd (Pat) Hjelden, Leeds, ND, Ron (June) Hjelden, Deer River, MN, Sidney (Shelly) Hjelden, Mexico, Vern (Marge) Hjelden, Grove, OK, Barb (Al) Solberg, Red Lake Falls, MN, and Marlene Petri, Langdon, ND; and many, many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Orville Sr.; son, Harold Stalvik; 6 brothers and 2 sisters, Darwin Hjelden, Eldora Harlan, Jessie Hjelden, Dorothy Robert, Russell Hjelden, Larry Hjelden, Ricky Paul Hjelden, and Robin Hjelden.

Helen went to be with the Lord the morning of January 10th 2018.

The Funeral Service will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church, Binford, ND, on Saturday, January 13, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. Officiating will be Rev. Sherri Frederikson and the organist will be Theresa Fiebiger. Interment will be in the spring at the Binford Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church on Saturday, from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service.
