Leslie "Les" Hendrickson Obituary

Leslie Thomas Hendrickson died peacefully at his home in rural Lakota, ND on Tuesday, September 11, 2018 at age 72.

Les was born September 15, 1945 in Lakota, ND to Archie Hendrickson and Agnes (Orseth) Hendrickson-Wright.  He was raised in rural McVille, ND and graduated from McVille High School in 1963.  He enlisted in the Navy as an Engineman during the Vietnam war and was honorably discharged after fulfilling a four year contract.  He married Monica Christine Schaan on February 26, 1974 at Notre Dame Catholic Church in Willow City, ND.  They moved to Petersburg, ND and lived for many years, raising six children.  They moved to rural Lakota in 1990, because Les loved living on a farm and wanted his children to experience life on a farmstead.  Les worked for many years and eventually retired from the Burlington Northern Railroad.  He was also very active in the community through various groups and part-time jobs.  He was an active member of the American Legion in Michigan and Petersburg, volunteer fire department, dealt blackjack and called Bingo for the Lakota Community Club (LCC), and was on the Williams Township Board.  Les loved spending time with his family and was very proud of his children and grandchildren.  When asked how many kids he had, Les always said “Only six.”  He also loved joking around, hunting, fishing, playing Pinochle, riding horse, bird-watching, and was always tinkering or fixing things around the house or yard.  He felt one of his biggest accomplishments was, after the house had to be moved because of the high water, he along with friends and relatives completely remodeled the house, adding on a room and finishing the basement.  Les was a member of St. Lawrence O’Toole Catholic Church in Michigan, ND.

He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Monica (Schaan) Hendrickson; 2 daughters, Sarah (Cory) Campbell, Grand Forks, ND, and Bridget (Christopher) Cardinal, Red Lake Falls, MN; 4 sons, Michael (Kara) Hendrickson, Mapleton, ND, Neil (Catherine) Hendrickson, Hillsboro, ND, Brett (Adrienne) Hendrickson, Michigan, ND, and Ethan Hendrickson, Michigan, ND; 13 grandchildren, Benjamin, Hayden, Brooklyn, Cain, Samuel, Evan, Emily, Hollie, Landin, Bowen, Crosby, Daphne, and Jocelyn; 1 brother, Ronald (Joyce) Hendrickson; and 4 sisters, Lynn (Maurice) Foley, Ardis Rolland, Renae (Gary) Huseby, and Elain Lowe.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Archie and Agnes; and a brother, Louis.

Les was greatly loved and will be greatly missed by all that knew him well.

The Funeral Mass will be held at St. Lawrence O’Toole Catholic Church, Michigan, ND, on Saturday, September 15, 2018 at 10:30 a.m.  Burial will be in the Michigan Cemetery.  Visitation will be held at the Aaker Funeral Home of Lakota, ND, on Friday, beginning at 5:00 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m.  Visitation will continue at the Church on Saturday, from 9:30 a.m. until the time of Mass.
