Robert Ray Messner

Robert Messner, age 84, of Binford, ND died Sunday, January 6, 2019 at Good Samaritan Society in Lakota, ND under the care of Altru Hospice.

Robert was born September 6, 1934 in Binford, ND the son of Paul and Olga (Standal) Messner.  He grew up in the area and graduated from Binford High School.  He worked for area farmers until entering the U.S. Army in July 1953.  Bob served in the military throughout his life until retiring from the Army National Guard in May 1994. 

On August 1, 1985 Bob met the love of his life, Lori Westby, while both were working for the Fargo National Guard.  On December 31, 2000, the couple married at their home in Binford.  Bob enjoyed spending time on the farm with Lori, and hunting.  He was a member of Disabled American Veterans, Binford American Legion, Binford Volunteer Fire Department, and Binford Rodeo.

Robert is survived by his wife Lori Messner of Binford, ND; son Gregory Messner of Seattle, WA; brother Paul (Vicki) Messner, Jr. of Bismarck, ND; and sister Judy (Kevin) Black of Glenfield, ND.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents; sister Donna Hagle-Hoffhine; and parents-in-law Jerry and Verna Westby.

Funeral services will be Saturday, January 12, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, Binford, ND.  Visitation will be Friday, January 11, 2019 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. with a prayer service at 7 p.m. and will continue 10:00 a.m. Saturday at the church.  Spring interment will be at Binford Cemetery, Binford, ND.  Military honors will be provided by North Dakota Funeral Honors Team.

Memorials are preferred to the Binford Baseball Diamond.
