Sanford Hoge Obituary

Sanford Ardean Hoge was born on April 6, 1927 in McVille ND to Sever and Sophie (Smaaladen) Hoge.  He died March 26, 2019 at Sanford Hospital in Fargo ND surrounded by his family.

Sanford was baptized at Our Saviors Lutheran Church of rural Kloten and confirmed at Sundahl Lutheran in Aneta.  After attending rural school in Rugh Township, he graduated from Aneta High School in 1944.  He was a member of the 45th Infantry Division and served as a Corporal in the Korean Conflict from 1950-1952.  In 1958, he married Lois Yvonne Hillebrand in Michigan ND.   He spent many winters working in the mines in Leeds SD and in Butte MT, and later for American Crystal Sugar in East Grand Forks.  Sanford lived and farmed with the Alvin Olson family and started farming on his own in 1952, buying his first land from Gustav Locken in 1960.  He loved farming, having raised turkeys and operating a dairy farm for many years.  Sanford was a founder of the Turkey BBQ, loved anything Aneta, the land, and having coffee with friends in the café or the Cenex.  He served on many boards, and was active in the Dairy Association for many years.

Sanford is survived by his wife Yvonne, sons Russell (Marilyn) Hoge and Ward Hoge, both of Aneta, daughter Renae (Bruce)Trautman of Huron SD, 7 grandchildren Allyse (Kyle) Dunnigan of Grand Forks ND, Sophie (Dave) Nelson of Moline IL, Kelsey (Bob) Mason of Fargo ND, and Grace, Claire, Ruth, and Joy Trautman, all of Huron SD, great-granddaughter Eloise Dunnigan, sister Ann Spey of Fort Meyers FL, brother Harris (Arlo) of Seattle WA, and special family friend Dave (Vicki) Olson of Coon Rapids MN.

Sanford was preceded in death by his parents, sister Clarice, and brother Vernon.

Memorial services will be Saturday, March 30, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at Sundahl Lutheran Church, Aneta ND.  Visitation will be held for an hour prior to services in the church. Military honors will be provided by the Aneta Edward A. Broberg American Legion Post 16 and the North Dakota Military Funeral Honors Team.  Interment will be at a later date at Silent Hill Cemetery, Aneta ND.
