Antonia M Brossart, age 90, Lakota, ND, passed away peacefully in her home on Sunday, November 8, 2020.
Antonia was born January 18, 1930 at Orrin, ND, the daughter of John and Frances (Welk) Weigel. She grew up in the Orrin area and attended the rural Orrin schools. On June 7, 1949 she married the love of her life, Joseph D. Brossart. Joseph and Antonia moved to the Lakota area in 1949, where they farmed together for many years until Joseph’s passing in July 1984. Antonia moved into her Lakota residence in September of 1989, where she resided until her passing. Antonia was an excellent cook and outstanding baker. She continued to bake and make her famous fresh bread, buns, kuchen, and German potato salad well into her 90’s. She loved to travel, read, do crossword puzzles, bake, and most of all, spend time with family. Throughout her life Antonia was an active participant in her community and church, holding her Catholic faith in highest regard.
Survivors include four sons, Ronald, Lakota, ND, Rodney (Susan), Lakota, ND, Rollin (Michele), Minot, ND, and Ross (Becky) Grand Forks, ND; three daughters, Joline Lucier, Cavalier, ND, Joan Vareberg, Fargo, ND, and Jolette (Fred) Martinez, Walsenburg, CO; 30 grandchildren and many great grandchildren; brother, Marcus Weigel, Stockton, CA; sister, Rita (Harold) Gefroh, Bismarck, ND; and sister-in-law, Trudy Weigel, Minot, ND.
Antonia was preceded in death by her parents; beloved husband, Joseph Brossart; granddaughter, Chrissy Brossart; sister, Isabel Degenstien; brothers, Joseph, Quentin, and Balzar Weigel; and an infant sister.
Rosary and Funeral Mass will be held Saturday, November 14, 2020, 12:00 p.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church in Lakota for family only with Fr. Steve Meyer officiating. All of Antonia’s grandchildren will be pallbearers. Interment will be in the Lakota Cemetery.
