Brian Hendrickson Obituary

Brian K. Hendrickson was born December 29, 1949 in Grafton, ND.  He was the second of 6 children born to Theodore and Muriel (Skavhaug) Hendrickson of Adams, ND.  He was confirmed at Mountain Lutheran Church in Adams.  Brian’s early years were spent in Adams, where he lived until 1964 when the family moved to Minot, ND.  He continued to spend as much time as possible at his grandpa’s farm near Adams.

Brian attended Minot High School and graduated in 1967.  After high school, he attended North Dakota State School of Science (NDSSS) in Wahpeton.

In March 1969, Brian volunteered for the US Army and entered military service.  He attended Basic Training at Fort Lewis in Washington.  After Basic Training, he went to Army Intelligence School at Fort Holabird, MD, and served in Vietnam from September 1969 to September 1970 before being honorably discharged in December 1971.

After his military service, Brian returned to Walsh County where he lived on his grandpa’s farm and found work with area construction companies.  It was during this time that Brian met Sharilyn Kjorsvik.  They were married on July 19, 1975 at Melrose Lutheran Church in rural Nelson County.

In the fall of 1975, they moved to Wahpeton to attend NDSSS where he studied air conditioning and refrigeration.

In 1980, they moved their young family from eastern North Dakota to Tioga, ND, where Brian worked as a local truck driver in the oil patch and as a long haul truck driver.  As a long haul truck driver, he traveled throughout most of the US including two trips to Alaska, which was a highlight of his driving career.

In 1999, Brian returned to Wahpeton to study recreational engines and graduated in the spring of 2001.

In 2002, Brian and Sharilyn returned to eastern North Dakota, and lived at his grandpa’s farmstead near Adams for a few years before moving into Michigan and eventually to rural Crary.

In his spare time Brian enjoyed being outside.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapping, gardening, picking juneberries, and tinkering on various projects.  He had countless stories and enjoyed sitting at the kitchen table with a cup of coffee and visiting with friends.  He liked reading biographies, magazine articles, and books about Alaska.  He also liked to watch UND hockey, the Discovery Channel, History Channel, and National Geographic.  Brian had a good sense of humor and loved a good prank or teasing his family.

He was a member of the American Legion and the Byron Kullan VVA Chapter 487.

Brian passed away peacefully at his home in Crary, ND, on January 5, 2020, surrounded by family members.

Brian is survived by his wife, Sharilyn (Kjorsvik) Hendrickson of Crary, ND; daughters, Kelda (Jason) Gauer of Laurel, MT, Neva (William) Sellers of Grand Forks, ND, and Kristen Hendrickson of Kwethluk, AK; son, Carl Hendrickson of Crary, ND; siblings, Karen Bender of Clancy, MT, Robbin (Jodi) Hendrickson of Bismarck, ND, Lana Landphere of Minot, ND, Carla Scantlebury of Wilsall, MT, and Becky Hanson of Clancy, MT; three grandchildren, Henry, Harper, and Hayden Gauer; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
