Diane K. Johnson, age 79, resident of Lakota, ND, died Saturday, March 21, 2020 at the Good Samaritan Society in Lakota.
Diane Kay Bjerke was born September 6, 1940 in New Rockford, ND, the daughter of Harold and Erma (Odegard) Bjerke. She was raised and attended school in Doyon, ND, graduating high school there in 1958. She then lived in Lakota and worked for Northwestern Bell. Diane married Lloyd M. Johnson on April 9, 1960 in Doyon. She raised her girls and did some in home babysitting. Diane began working at the State Bank of Lakota in January of 1973. She continued until her retirement in April of 2010. Lloyd died July 12, 2009. She continued living in Lakota and moved to the Good Samaritan Society in January of 2016. She was an avid MN Twins and Vikings fan, and also enjoyed watching Lakota Raider sports. Her grandchildren and neighbors thoroughly loved her cooking and baking. She was a member of the Lakota Lutheran Church and WELCA organization, and also the American Legion Auxiliary of Lakota.
Diane will be deeply missed by her 2 daughters, Lori Bazal and Lynette Smaage, both of Lakota; 4 grandchildren, Brandie (Josh) Ulland, Allie (Chad) Knudson, Seth (special friend, Taylor) Smaage, and Levi (special friend, Traci) Smaage; 9 great-grandchildren, Tommy, Shay, Aubry, Henry, and Ridgely Ulland, Slade, Deker, Brexten, and Lola Knudson; and sister-in-law, Benita Bjerke.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lloyd; mother & father-in-law, Ole & Clara Johnson; 2 brothers, Larry and Roger Bjerke; and nephew, Richard Bjerke.
A graveside service will be held at the Lakota Cemetery on Friday, July 3, 2020 at 11:00 a.m.
