Joyce M. Northagen, age 89, resident of Grafton, ND, formerly of Fordville, ND, died Saturday, February 1, 2020 at the Lutheran Sunset Home in Grafton.
Joyce Marie Studley was born August 8, 1930 at Michigan, ND, the daughter of Bruce and Ida (Sommerfeld) Studley. She was raised in the area and attended the Michigan School. Joyce married Melvin J. Northagen in September of 1948. They lived at Michigan until 1967, when the family moved to Fordville. Joyce was a homemaker and raised her family in Fordville. When the children were older she worked for a time at the Park River Good Samaritan Center as a Nurse’s Aide. She was a member of the Fordville Lutheran Church and the Ladies Aid. Her hobbies include gardening, tending to her flowers, handicrafts, and embroidery. Melvin died December 9, 2016. Joyce then moved to Grand Forks for a short time before residing at the Lutheran Sunset home in Grafton.
Joyce will be missed by her 4 children, Ione (Floyd) Alford of Grand Forks, ND, Reane (James) Daley of Park River, ND, Jonathan (Tami) Northagen and Donald Northagen, both of Fordville; a daughter-in-law, Jo Northagen of Fordville; 16 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; 7 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by an infant son, Dennis; her husband, Melvin; her son, LeRoy Northagen; her daughter, Paulette Hicks; her grandson, Brent Northagen; and her brother, Henry Studley.
The Funeral Service for Joyce will be held at the Fordville Lutheran Church, Fordville, ND, on Friday, February 7, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be in the spring at the Michigan Cemetery, Michigan, ND. Visitation will be held at the church on Friday, beginning at 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
