Kenneth R. Olson

Kenneth R. Olson, age 93, resident of Lakota, ND, formerly of Brocket, ND, died Friday, January 21, 2022 at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, ND.

Kenneth Ronald Olson was born February 9, 1928 near Brocket, ND, son of Jacob and Marie (Lillegren) Olson.  He was raised on the family farm and educated in Brocket, graduating high school in 1946.  He then went on to the ND Agricultural College in Fargo for 3 years, attending 2 quarters per year.  On August 7, 1949 he married his high school sweetheart, Luella Swanson, in the Vaage Lutheran Church of Brocket.  To this union 2 children were born, Debra Lou and Terrance Ronald.  Kenneth farmed with his father for 10 years then purchased the Hanson farm and farmed independently.  They were members of United Lutheran Church at Brocket, where he had served as President.  He was active in many community affairs.  He was a member of the Ramsey County Farm Bureau and served as its’ President.  Along with other boards, he served on the Brocket School Board, Lake Region College Board, Lillehoff Township, and Equity Elevator.  He also worked as a Nodak Insurance agent for many years.  He earned his LPA license and worked in partnership for tax and accounting in Lakota.  In later years he gave up his farming and was offered the job as Farm Manager in the First National Bank of Grand Forks.  After retiring he and Luella moved back to the farm to hobby farm and continue his love of restoring old cars.  Later the couple purchased a condo in Lakota.

Kenneth is survived by a daughter, Debra (Clifford) Thompson; a son, Terrance (Karen) Olson; 5 grandchildren, Paul (Rachel) Thompson, Sarah (Byron) Clark, Laura (Brendan) Boe, Jacob Olson, and Kathryn Olson; 6 great grandchildren, Emma, Ella, Noah, Audrey, Austin, and Callum; sister, Delores Sandager; brother, Norris (Jean) Olson; 2 sisters-in-law, Alice Olson and Virginia Olson; brother-in-law, Floyd Anderson; and several nieces & nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 69 years, Luella; 2 brothers, John and Gerald; 1 sister, Judith Anderson; and brother-in-law, Carl Sandager.

The Memorial Service will be held at United Lutheran Church of Brocket, ND, on Saturday, June 11, 2022 at 11:00 a.m.  Interment will be in the Hoff Cemetery, rural Brocket.  Visitation will be held at the Aaker Funeral Home of Lakota, ND, on Friday, beginning at 6:00 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m.  Visitation will continue at the church on Saturday, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
