Lavern “Vernie” Nyland, age 69, of Edmore, ND, passed away suddenly on Thursday, April 2, 2020. Lavern was a resident of the Edmore Memorial Rest Home in his home town of Edmore for the past several years.
Lavern Dale Nyland was born September 24, 1950 in Langdon, ND, the son of Arne and Agnes (Myrvik) Nyland. He was raised in Edmore and lived there his entire life. He attended the Edmore Public School, graduating in 1970 and was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church at Edmore. He was employed by his home town’s Farmers Union Cenex for many years. Lavern never married but had many friends and was known as one of the home town’s icons. Most knew him as “Vernie”.
The highlight of his high school days was serving as one of the managers for the Edmore Vikings Basketball Team. He loved motorcycles and in years past looked forward to trips out to Wyoming to go cycling in the mountains with his cousins. He also loved NASCAR and Stock Car Racing. He was involved with Dale Skytland Racing and loved every minute of it. He was also involved with the Edmore Community Club and the Edmore Fire Department. He loved spending time deer hunting and archery.
Lavern is survived by his brother, Arden (Donna) Nyland of Grand Forks, ND; two nieces, Heather Nyland of Waite Park, MN and Joelle (Lee) Morrison of Aurora, CO; one nephew, Jarrod (Kari) Nyland of Fargo, ND; six grand-nieces and nephews, Alicia, Jacob, Hanna, Braxton, Brynn and Boston; and numerous cousins. We also want to mention his best friends, Dale & Doreen Skytland and family of Edmore, ND.
Lavern was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents; and all of his aunts, uncles and their spouses; and several cousins.
A Graveside Service will be held at St. Hans Lutheran Cemetery, rural Edmore, ND, on Monday, July 6, 2020 at 4:00 p.m.
