Lola F. Leir, age 84, resident of Lakota, ND, formerly of McHenry, ND, died Sunday, August 15, 2021 at the Good Samaritan Society in Lakota.
Lola Faye Anderson was born April 19, 1937, the daughter of Alfred and Elaine (Faytle) Anderson, at her grandparent’s home in McHenry, ND. She was raised and attended school there, graduating from McHenry High School and Minot State Teachers College. Lola married Rodney Leir on June 25, 1967 at Our Saviors Lutheran Church, McHenry. They resided in McHenry for 45 years. She began her teaching career at a country school near Kensal. She taught English at Carrington briefly, at which time she taught at the McHenry Public School, then Midkota Public School. She was rated “Top Shelf” by her students and fellow teachers. Lola was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church, where she also served as Treasurer, and was very active in WELCA. Her hobbies included her horses, dogs & stray cats that she cared for as if they were her children. She enjoyed drives in the country to see the sights and gathering with family for special occasions. Lola wished to be remembered for being there for her family whenever she was needed, for being a wonderful English teacher, her love for horses, and for her photo albums which were historical records. In her final message, thank you to my friends & family for all the help and good deeds that were bestowed upon me after the loss of my husband, you will never know how much it helped.
Lola is survived by 2 brothers, Lonnie (Renee) Anderson of Michigan, ND and Gerry (Barbara) Anderson of Marlow, OK; 2 sisters-in-law, Lyla Anderson of Spring Valley, IL and Myrna Aasand of McHenry, ND; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Rodney Leir; a brother, Rodney Anderson; brother-in-law, Charles Aasand; and nephew, Jeff Anderson.
The Memorial Service for Lola will be held at Our Saviors Lutheran Church of McHenry, ND, on Saturday, August 21, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be in the Bethlehem Cemetery, rural McHenry.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Our Saviors Lutheran Church of McHenry or Red Willow Ministries at Binford, ND.
