Margaret “Maggie” Swanson, age 82, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Wednesday, August 24, 2022 at Valley Senior Living in Grand Forks, ND.
Margaret was born May 29, 1940, to Adolph and Agnes (Lien) Alfredson. She was raised in Lakota, ND and graduated from Lakota High School. She later attended Jamestown College. She was united in marriage to Lynos Swanson on November 29, 1961. Together they had 4 children. In 1963, they started farming in the Lawton, ND area and made their home there for many years. Margaret was actively involved in the farming operation, gardened for years, and thoroughly enjoyed watching her kids and grandkids in sporting and other school events over the years. She also was an active volunteer for many organizations and was a member of Lawton Lutheran Church where she was the organist for over 50 years.
In 2003, Margaret and Lynos moved back to Lakota where they enjoyed many years of retirement. Margaret shared her love of music with many others. You could find her spending hours playing her clavinova, doing Sudoko, reading, but her favorite times were visiting with friends and family. She was also always willing to play a game of cards and darn hard to beat!
She is survived by her daughters, Kari (Brian) Perreault of East Grand Forks, MN & Susan (Terry) Blagsvedt of Rushford, MN; sons, Keith (Sue) Swanson of Stuart, FL & Steven (Brenna) Swanson of Lawton, ND; 9 grandchildren, Luke Perreault, Jenna (Jack) Bixler, Taylor (Matt) Broman, Nicole Blagsvedt, Brenden and Nicholas Swanson, Jalyn, Levi, and Mya Swanson; 2 great-grandsons, Brooks Broman and Jace Bixler; and 1 great-granddaughter, Blake Broman; brother-in-law, Andy (Gail) Swanson; and many nieces and nephews.
Margaret was preceded in death by her husband; parents; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Inez Hjelmstad and Ed Swanson; step father-in-law, Thor Hjelmstad; brother and sister-in-law, Norman and Mary Alfredson; sister and brother-in-law, Delores and Gordon Johnson; brother-in-law, Clint Swanson; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Elaine and Clayton Lichtenbarger; and niece, Kristi Christianson.
