Shirley A. Kleven

Shirley A. Kleven, age 72, resident of Lakota, ND, passed away Thursday, June 25, 2020 at Sanford on Broadway in Fargo, ND.

Shirley Ann Miller was born May 2, 1948 in Grand Forks, ND, the daughter of James W. and Marian A. (Pederson) Miller.  She grew up in Brocket, ND, and graduated from Lakota High School in 1966.  After high school she attended the University of North Dakota and then moved on to graduate from St. Joseph’s School of Nursing.  Shirley married Allen “Harv” Kleven on July 19, 1968 at Crookston, MN.  They lived in Grand Forks and Michigan for a short time before making Lakota their home in 1973.  Shirley began her nursing career as an RN in Grand Forks.  She later worked at Friendship Healthcare in McVille, ND, where she became Director of Nursing.  Allen died September 17, 1989.  For the past 19 years Shirley was a nurse at the Good Samaritan Home in Lakota, where she retired as Director of Nursing in March of this year.

Shirley will be deeply missed by her 3 children, Cory, Ryan, and Maryanne; her mother, Marian Miller; 2 brothers, Alan (Laverne) Miller and Randy (Lisa) Miller; 2 sisters, Lori (Bruce) Anderson and Shari (Mark) Gisvold; 6 nieces & nephews, Casey, Courtney, Erica, Christopher, Matthew, and Whitney.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Allen; father, James; sister-in-law, Karen Sundeen; and her mother & father-in-law, Madeline & Elmer Kleven.

Funeral services will be private, with burial in the Lakota Cemetery.
