Victoria Haabak, age 92 passed away Saturday February 6, 2021 at the Nelson County Health System Care Center in McVille, ND.
Victoria May Bergstrand was born on May 16, 1928 to parents John and Clara (Sandvik) Bergstrand of McVille, ND. She was baptized and confirmed in the McVille Lutheran Church.
Victoria attended school in McVille and also a short time in Pekin, ND.
On March 11, 1947 Victoria married Ernest Haabak and they lived and farmed north of Kloten.
Victoria was a Sunday School superintendent, VBS teacher and 4-H leader.
She worked as a nurses aide for several years and at the age of 47 earned her LPN Certificate from Lake Region Junior College. She worked at the nursing home in McVille and the hospital in Northwood, ND.
She enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, the computer, gardening, going on garden bus tours and ND State Horticultural meetings. Victoria served for many years on the boards of the Nelson County Health System and the Nelson County Health Services Foundation. She was also a Hospice volunteer.
Victoria had made plans to donate her body to the UND School of Medicine. Unfortunately, due to Covid-19 this wish was unable to be fulfilled.
Victoria is survived by daughters Ellen (Donald) Croy, Cartwright, ND; Linda Haabak, Hemet, CA; and son Harold (Diane) Haabak, McVille, ND; step grandchildren Rob (Laurie) Johnson, Tracy (Ryan) Kasten; step great granddaughters Kyra Kostecki (Rodney Whight), Marie Kasten and step great grandson George Kasten; step great, great grandson Barrett Whight; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Victoria was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother Harding Bergstrand, sisters Cora Kabeary, Clenora Walhood, Susie Christofferson, Olena Bowder, Alvina Bratager, Esther Moe, two nieces and four nephews.
A Remembrance of Life Celebration will be held at a later date.
Memorials are preferred to the Kloten Valley Grove Cemetery or a charity of donor’s choice.
